In 2009, a small group of people had a big idea: take the original Star Wars movie, cut it up into hundreds of 15 second clips, post those clips online and allow people to recreate those clips, shot for shot, however they please, and then put those clips back together thus rebuilding the movie. The result is an amazing love letter to the Star Wars series. Fans from across the globe recreated every moment of this movie each in their own unique way. Sure, there are a lot of terrible home movie clips, but they are made better by the cute kids and/or animals used in filming, plus you can see how much these people care about what they are doing. There is a real passion for Star Wars in these people's lives. In this way, Star Wars Uncut is just as much a documentary as it is anything else. There are also some really cool things people did with every imaginable form of animation: stop-motion, claymation, CGI, and hand drawn, even including a flipbook. There are also clips that mimic news reports, infomercials and even other movies, including Casablanca, The Big Lebowski, Clerks, The Seventh Seal and many more. It may seem like the quick changes in visuals would be confusing and make the film next to impossible to follow. However, I was able to follow the plot quite easily; however, I don't know if this is a result of having already seen the original film. Also, The quick changes make the slower parts of the film more enjoyable. To compare these two movies would be unfair to both of them because they are so different in pretty much everything besides the plot. Star Wars Uncut isn't a film in the traditional sense, in fact as far as I know nothing like this has been done before, but it is a testament to the spirit of the Star Wars fan.
