Turtles No Longer Teenage or Mutant, According to Title

As though Michael Bay hasn't already cause enough controversy by saying that the ninja turtles would be aliens in his upcoming reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, the recently released title of the film suggests they might not even be teenagers. The films title, simply Ninja Turtles, appears to be driven by marketing. I suppose Bay wouldn't want to alienate (pun not intended) non-teenage viewers, as much as we wouldn't want to alienate mutant viewers. This reminds one of John Carter, based on the book Princess of Mars. Disney's marketing team didn't want the words "Princess" or "Mars" in the title because their target demographic was the very anti-princess teenage boy group. Unfortunately for Disney they ended up with a title that sounds like some kind of old-timey British euphemism. "I say, Winston, I seem to have taken a cricket ball to my John Carter!" The decision ended up costing Disney $200 million. Part of me doesn't want to see our beloved turtles fail in such a way, but a larger part of me wants Michael Bay to fail at everything he does, so best of luck to you Mr. Bay and your non-mutant, non(?)-teenage, ninja turtles. Also, please stop making movies.
