In welcome news for children and people who get so incensed at the insinuation that the character is only of interest to children, they’ve already spluttered bong water all over themselves, Paramount has confirmed plans to release another SpongeBob SquarePants movie in 2014. The project is part of the studio’s efforts to amp up its animated output, hoping that the increased global presence of Nickelodeon will help the new SpongeBob film outperform 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie—except in Indonesia, where sponges are not to be made an object of fun. “Woe to the man who makes a mockery of the sponge, which rises from the sea to soak up his very soul,” goes the Indonesian saying, or it’s possible we are just making this up. Anyway, Paramount didn’t provide any details on what form the next SpongeBob adventure would take, but it will probably involve bright colors, enthusiastic yelling, and maybe a David Hasselhoff-style celebrity cameo or two.
